Minerals have been used as bases for cosmetics since the time of Cleopatra. They are “buildable” colors, capable of evening out skin tones.
Mineral bases are concentrated pigments. Natural pigments are more concentrated than dyes such as FD&C dyes found in conventional make-up lines. (‘Pigment’ refers to a colored or white compound that is insoluble, while ‘dye’ refers to a chemical compound that is soluble.) Less product is needed with true pigments than products using dyes.

Freeze-dried vitamin, A, C, and E
Iron Oxides
(yellow, ochre, black, red)
The variations of color range from red to brown, and black to orange and yellow. These oxides assist in blocking infrared rays, and keep the skin cool.
Mica
(silicate minerals)
This family of minerals is used to give iridescent or shimmer. Colored micas contain both silicate and iron oxides.
Serecite
This finely ground crystalline mica, is pure and uncolored, adding a subtle shimmer.
Ultramarines
(pink, blue and violet)
These iron oxides have been intensely heated to create vibrant, rich colors.
